Across the Corn Belt, a few rain showers are affecting the lower Great Lakes region but elsewhere, mild and dry weather is prevailing. On the Plains, record-setting warmth has replaced last week's frigid conditions, eliminating winter wheat's protective snow cover for the timebeing. In the West, a small but energetic storm system is moving ashore along the northern Pacific Coast, bearing rain, snow and gusty winds.
