Mike Pearson takes a look at what the Nebraska governor is trying to do to stop the sale of lab created meat.
Nebraska is set to be the fourth state (Florida, Alabama and Iowa have already enacted legislation) to enact laws against lab grown meat.
Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen has enacted executive action and legislation to stop the sale of cultivated meat in late August.
The governor ordered that state agencies and contractors are prohibited from purchasing lab grown meat starting in 2025.
The Nebraska Department of Agriculture has been tasked with drafting legislation to ensure products are clearly labeled and not marketed along side traditionally raised meat.
A public hearing on the rules is set for Oct. 8.
Governor Pillen has announced it is his intention to push for a ban on the cultivated meat in Nebraska.
The motivation is clear. Nebraska is the second largest cattle producing state and the governor's priority to protect the beef industry.
