Mike Pearson takes a look at the court battles beginning over cell cultured meat, the state of Florida and Upside Foods.

Upside Foods is a cell cultured chicken producer who says the ban against the sale of cell cultured meat is unconstitutional.

On July 1, Florida became the first state to ban cell cultured meat. Now that law is being challenged in court. And this case could have major implications.

Upside filed the lawsuit in Florida claiming the ban takes away the consumer's choice and ability to purchase USDA and FDA approved food.

According to the complaint, it violates the Supremacy clause.

The state claims the ban reflects the concerns of lab grown meat and the impact on livestock farms.

Meanwhile, Upside claims the ban is less about food safety and more about the interests involved and believes consumers should have the choice.

Farm Progress America is a daily look at key issues in agriculture. It is produced and presented by Mike Pearson, farm broadcaster and host of This Week in Agribusiness .
