The Soy Transportation Coalition is warning farmers about two supply chain challenges that could impact grain shipments as #harvest24 gets underway.
The alert was issued due to two new hurdles facing farmers.
The first issue is a strike by the Canadian rail workers which would shut down the Canadian railroad and eventually impact the shipment of grain. The strike could start as soon as August 22. The U.S. railroad won't be shut down but it will impact the movement of goods through Canada.
The second issue is a strike by dock workers which is set to impact ports from Texas to Maine.
A strike by the U.S. Ports on the east and gulf coast expires Sept. 30. IF a new a new agreement is not reached, workers are set to strike Oct. 1.
Dock workers are fighting the use of automated technology which the International Longshoremen's Association says violates the contract and threatens American jobs.
