You vs You: Past, present, future
Getting away from the noise of the world is seemingly harder than ever. The barrage of information and news is incessant. Worse yet, all of us inherently possess a negativity bias – we’re prone to listen, and/or click through, to bad-news stories (doomscrolling).

That impacts how we view and think about the world. It’s difficult to not be distracted by all that, especially when it’s getting reinforced day after day. The negative repetition can shape our worldview. We begin to believe that everything is worse today than it was yesterday and, subsequently, there’s not much hope for the future.

That sways our decision-making. It leads to the trap of emotion and pessimism – and thus, we fail to remain objective about the long run. We just simply react to the (negative) news of today.

Morgan Housel, author of The Psychology of Money , recently discussed some of those ideas on Barry Ritholtz’s podcast ( Masters in Business ). Ultimately, Housel challenges us to get out of the pessimism trap and rise above the noise with a longer-run view of the world:
