It's been eight months since the 2018 Farm bill expired and there is only five months left on the extension.
Some progress has been made on the next five year farm bill.
It's been two weeks since the House of Representatives Ag Committee released the "Farm, Food and National Security Act" was approved which will function as the basis of the farm bill.
The democrats in the House Ag Committee have expressed their opinion that they won't accept cuts to the nutrition program.
The republicans in the Senate Ag Committee released the framework for the farm bill as well.
Broadly, both versions are similar.
It is the hope that the majority and minority ag committees have released the framework for the farm bill and will use a bipartisan effort to work together to create one bill.
The progress might be slow but at least progress is being made. However, due to the presidential election, another extension is likely.
